MAVIM is looking for a highly motivated Academician who is passionate about working for furthering the gender equality and women empowerment momentum created by MAVIM in the state of Maharashtra in India. The broader goal is to strengthen MAVIM’s emergence as a CoE in the field of gender transformation agendas and its promotion through sustainable grassroot institution building, market inclusion and climate resilience efforts to support vulnerable rural women in overcoming poverty.
The CoE Consultant is expected to give the strategic inputs to MAVIM’s Management to develop the Centre of Excellence. Would be responsible for driving state specific agenda of gender transformation mechanism. Experience of working with National and Global organizations on the gender and women and rural development. Strong research background and has published women centric / rural development/ Women Entrepreneurs’ studies.
The CoE Consultant will be responsible for setting the context right and drive the gender transformation agendas through proper strategic actions. Networking with Government, Civil Society, NGOs, Academic Institutions, Research Institutions. Identifying policy gaps, preparing the policy briefs and presenting it to the policy makers.
Qualification: The candidate must be a postgraduate in Social Sciences / Development Studies/ Women Studies / Social Work / Sociology/ Rural Development.
Preferably: PhD with Research Background in Women studies/ Rural Development.
Skills: Strong communication skills preferably in English and Marathi, both written and oral.
Experience:
1. Minimum 10 years of Experience of working with National and Global organizations work on the women and rural development
2. Academician with strong research background and has published women centric / rural development/ Women Entrepreneurship studies.
3. Networking and Advocacy.
4. Understanding of the SHG communities, overall GEWE ecosystem in Maharashtra and India will be preferred.
. Familiarity with Government of Maharashtra’s policies as well as knowledge and understating on grassroots problem identification, women-led enterprises development.
6. Equivalent program management experience in design, development, management of GEWE programs.
7. Experience in policy research, including at least 7 years of experience in quantitative or qualitative research.
8. Understanding of gender inequality, women empowerment issues in Indian context.
9. Willingness to travel extensively in program locations within and outside the State as and when required.
Age: Age of the candidate should not be more than 50 years as on March 2023. In case of Retired Govt. officer age limit will be as per Govt. Norm
Location: Mumbai Head office.
CoE Consultant Key Responsibilities:

1. The person will be an integral member of the Centre of Excellence team within MAVIM. The primary role is to generate evidence to facilitate both programming as well as policy advocacy towards GTM goals and objectives.
2. The person will be responsible for spearheading national as well as regional policy research in Gender Transformation Mechanisms (GTM), GEWE and allied field of work. It would entail identifying gaps in existing policies of the state and conceptualizing and implementing policy research studies at the national level as well as undertaking secondary research on various GTM indicators.
3. Bring insights from the ground to build and share knowledge. Working closely with MAVIM, this role will facilitate building alliances with relevant individuals, CSOs, NGOs, Policy makers and researchers to strengthen advocacy, influence policy and improve Practices on the ground.
4. Spearhead policy analyses efforts required to be undertaken for building of a favorable eco-system of Non-Traditional Livelihoods/ entrepreneurship development for women with various stakeholders such as community members, collectives, organizations, corporate organization, media and national and international policy makers.
5. The specialist would also be responsible for planning and developing research strategies with the aim of primarily supporting its advocacy efforts and influencing and informing GTM programming in Nav Tejaswini. The emphasis of this role is also on building organization’s knowledge of the various facets of gender transformation, sustainable GIB through research, documentation and analysis.
6. Develop Common understanding on MAVIM’s ways of working, Tejswini & NavTejaswini programmatic approaches and Grassroots Institution Building (GIB) and sustainability, and different strategies adopted by the organization to reach the current level.
7. Identifying and Networking with key stakeholders such as local communities (SHGs, CMRCs, Vos, MMM), government departments, enterprises, financial institutes, NGOs / grassroots organizations.
8. The candidate should be technically equipped in Research Methodology, data management and analysis, and writing of the policy briefs, research reports.
9. Demonstrate proactive approaches with strong capability to work in an interdisciplinary program and people environment.
10. Skills to mobilize funds through banks, MFIs, Central and State government schemes for sustainability of the Centre.
11. Update MAVIM regarding the team's progress and areas of improvement.
12. Regularly organize and facilitate training workshops for the team to develop their skills, building their capacity on an individual and team level.
13. Effectively tracking, analyzing and evaluating the progress under various themes and objectives of the CoE, and alert the organization on possible key risks, learnings and challenges.
14. Ensure organizational, operational and assessment processes and guidelines are adhered to and escalate to MAVIM’s leadership in cases where required.
15. The role also demands developing ethics and quality parameters for research and surveys conducted by the CoE and evaluating studies conducted for adherence to quality parameters.

Consultancy fees: Upto Rs. 1,00,000/- per month subject to applicable tax.
